If you ever find yourself in Europe – whether you’re working for a while or studying there – you’ll soon discover that you have so many destinations in easy reach. You really can see so much of the world’s history in and around Europe that it’s sometimes difficult to know where to start.
Today, it’s easier than ever to see it all as there are so many affordable flights available. This is because of the deregulation of where airlines can fly to and from and the fact that they no longer have to be routed through a specific hub airport. So competition is high among budget airlines for business and the price of flights is sometimes amazingly cheap.
If you chose to, you could spend every weekend in another country, as long as you have the funds to pay for the other parts of the trip like accommodation and eating out. Compared to a couple of decades ago, it’s much cheaper to visit other countries so it’s not surprising that many of us can get to see iconic sights like the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum and Vatican City, the Alhambra, the Parthenon and Buckingham Palace for ourselves rather than having to just see them on TV.

That’s not to say, though, that every trip has to be to somewhere historically or culturally significant. Sometimes it’s nice to be able to just jet off for a few days of sunshine on a great beach. For example, you could get cheap flights to Portugal and spend some time kite surfing on one of the many beautiful Atlantic beaches along the Algarve coast if that’s what you feel like. Alternatively, you could fly to Bordeaux and hire a car to explore the Dordogne, with its majestic river and beautiful towns like Sarlat.
If you are in Europe for an extended period, don’t let the chance of all this cheap travel pass you by. Explore what this continent has to offer and you’ll build up some fantastic memories and tales to tell in the process.
